🌹 Behind the Cover: The Secrets and Symbolism of Sweet Vengeance
By Sharmaine Moreno — Author of the Sweet Series

Book covers are one of the first promises an author makes to readers.
And the cover of Sweet Vengeance carries more than just pretty visuals—
it holds the entire heart of Gabriela Sullivan’s journey.
Every detail you see was chosen with intention, meaning, and connection to the story itself.
Here are the hidden secrets woven into the design.
🗝1. The Key — Her Last Link to Her Father
Gabrela’s key necklace is more than an accessory.
It’s the final gift from her father before he was murdered, the object she clings to when she needs courage, and the symbol of the truth she’s spent five years searching for.
On every version of the cover, the key appears—subtle or central—because Gabriela’s journey begins and ends with it.
🌹2. The Red Dress — Fire, Fury, and Vulnerability
The rose color on the paperback cover wasn’t chosen randomly.
It is inspired directly by Gabriela’s iconic red dress—the one she wears during some of the most intense scenes of the book.
Red represents:
- her rage
- her passion
- her determination
- and the unexpected tenderness she discovers along the way
This dress became a symbol of who she becomes, and I wanted the cover to honor that transformation.
🔥3. The Flames — A Past She Can’t Escape
Many of the alternate covers feature flames, smoke, or destruction in the background.
This reflects Gabriela’s inner world:
She is a woman shaped by fire—
by loss, by betrayal, by survival.
The burning scenery symbolizes:
- the life she left behind
- the danger she steps into
- and the truth she’s willing to walk through fire to uncover
🎭4. The Characters — Gabriela & Timothy Brought to Life
Each illustrated cover captures a different facet of their dynamic:
- The intense stare → their slow-burn tension
- The close physical distance → the chemistry they can’t deny
- The guns → the danger that shadows them
- The dirt, sweat, and fire marks → the battles they fight, together and apart
I wanted them to look real—not flawless models, but two damaged souls pulled toward each other.
✨ 5. The Gold Lettering — Wealth, Power, and Secrets
The gold typography and frame details reflect the world Gabriela infiltrates:
The Fitzgerald empire.
Money. Influence. Secrets wrapped in elegance.
Gold is beautiful—but it also hides rot beneath the shine.
Just like the world she steps into.
🖤6. The Dark Background — The Truth in the Shadows
Behind the characters is darkness—not empty, but heavy with meaning.
It represents:
- the secrets Gabriela uncovers
- the danger stalking her
- and the emotional weight she carries
The darkness contrasts with her fiery presence, reminding readers that she is the light in her own story.
💛Why These Covers Matter
Sweet Vengeance is a story about revenge, grief, loyalty, and unexpected love.
I wanted the covers to feel like the story:
Cinematic.
Emotional.
Dangerous.
Beautiful.
These images are more than artwork—
they are visual echoes of Gabriela Sullivan’s soul.
📚The Beginning of the Sweet Series
This is Book One.
The beginning of a sprawling universe of suspense, passion, and second chances.
And every book in the Sweet Series will continue the tradition—
each cover inspired by the heroine’s story, her colors, her symbols.
Thank you for being part of this journey.
I can’t wait for you to see what comes next.
